AthletesCAN congratulates its members on a golden performance at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games
OTTAWA, March 8, 2010 - AthletesCAN, the Association of Canada’s National Team Athletes, extends congratulations to all members of Canada’s 2010 Olympic Team for their performance at the XXI Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Canadian athletes brought home a total of 26 medals, the best showing ever by Canada at a Winter Olympics. Of those, 14 were Gold, a feat no country has ever accomplished in the history of the Winter Olympic Games, let alone a host nation.
“While our medal count is truly remarkable, I would like to congratulate all our Olympians for captivating our nation and reminding us all how important sport is to our communities,” says AthletesCAN President Andrew Nisker. “I also want to recognize the millions of Canadians who rallied together to support our athletes in a manner rarely seen in sport history. AthletesCAN challenges Canadians to continue to support and be involved in the lives of our athletes through the 2010 Paralympics and beyond 2012.”
AthletesCAN also recognizes the dedication and support of the coaches, family, friends and all others who have contributed to the success of these Olympians.
“We were very pleased to see the difference makers and support systems highlighted throughout the Games in addition to the athletes,” says Moira Lassen, Executive Director of AthletesCAN. “Without the help of coaches, family, funding partners and others, reaching the Olympic level would be virtually impossible.”
AthletesCAN salutes VANOC, the Canadian Olympic Committee, Own the Podium, the national sport organizations, the Canadian government and other independent funding agencies for their hard work and support to make the 2010 Vancouver Olympics a great success for Canadian athletes and Canada as a whole.
Congratulations to Canada’s 2010 Olympic Winter Games Medalists!
